Guilty pleasure

I know I'm not really frying foods anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't still love them. Especially french fries. Especially since I discovered Five Guys. Five Guys is this hamburger and fries place that opened up a year or two ago in Philly, and everything they serve, with the exception of the hamburger buns, is gluten free! They only serve burgers, hotdogs, and fries, with all kinds of toppings for the burgers. They don't look at you weird if you order a burger without a bun. The best part? Their fries. There is a sign up on the wall where they write what town your potatoes are from every day. Since the fries are the only thing they cook in the fryer, and they don't add anything to them, the fries are totally gluten-free.

And they're soooooo good. It's such a treat to be able to get gluten-free fries, I don't know of anywhere else in Philly where I can eat fries. And it's just not the same eating frozen fries that are baked in the oven.

One more thing that's good (or bad, depending on if you have a peanut allergies) is they have bins of peanuts that you can scoop out into little boats and eat alongside your burger and fries. They have signs on the door that state that there are open containers of peanuts inside, and you aren't allowed to take the peanuts outside.

Bottom line? Go eat some french fries.

  1. French fry envy over here!!

  2. We have one in my town over here in NJ too. Yeah, they don't even blink when I say "no bun". Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

  3. There is something about thick cut french fries/steak fries, isn't there? I love baking my own, especially sweet potato fries! YUMMY!

I was curious if the spices they put the fries in had gluten or not. Sadly I can't eat peanuts but I might risk the peanut oil if the fries really are gluten free.

    nothing like guilty pleasures!
i'm glad you treated yourself :)

  6. I have been wanting to try five guys forever. ...and I was just thinking of having a gf veggie burger for dinner but lamenting I didn't have any fries.

so ...thanks for making my craving worse? :)

great pictures, I will have to try these soon!

  7. Whooee! We loves our FIVE GUYS as well! Definitely a "treat" because of the calories and generous portioning -- but each time we go, we continue to think it's even better than we remember. We usually come home to eat, and the fries seldom make it to our garage -- eaten at every stoplight.

Didja see Brian Williams' NBC special with the Prez? I'm a Dem and still have a few bones to pick with his new policies ... but I have NO BONES to pick with his choice of burger venue! LOL!
