Pizza, again

I think I've got the DH rash, I think I might have had some gluten recently. This is the first time in 4 years I've had it, and I'm terribly upset. It's on my neck and wicked gross and I'm so upset. Any advice, anyone? It's been a long time since the one other time I've had it, it kind of hurts and is so unattractive.
To make things better, I made pizza for dinner. I used the recipe that I love from epicurious that I modified a few months ago, and seriously, its SO good. My mom's gluten-eating food snob boyfriend (self-proclaimed, he is very critical of gluten-free things) said it was fantastic. Its not that hard, either. I'm going to fool around some more in the next week or so so maybe expect an updated recipe, but regardless you should try it anyway. We put fresh mozzerella, homemade tomato sauce with delicious fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, sausage, onions, and fresh basil (after we baked it). It was great. Mmmmm.

  1. Sorry to hear about the rash, especially after so long without any exposure to gluten from the sounds of it. Hopefully you are able to avoid the trigger in the future. I wish I had advice for you, but when I am exposed, I usually just get a few hives (typically on my arms or legs) and not full-blown DH.

Pizza surely helps one feel better in these situations :) If you want another pizza-crust recipe to try that perhaps your gluten-eater would accept as good, my wife posted a gluten-free pizza crust recipe over on our free recipe library. It is rather tasty in my opinion.

Well, here's hoping you don't experience more DH any time soon!

  3. I used to have DH just about all the time and I never really found something that worked really well. Cortisone creams can help but to knock out the histamine reaction try a Claratin in the morning and benadryl at night (or the generic version) that that should help with the itch.

  4. Thanks Vittoria, I've been using cortisone but will take a claritin now and take benadryl later. I'm so uncomfortable and pissed!!

  5. I know exactly how it feels. I used to take scalding hot showers before bed too, kind felt like I could wash away the itchy, icky-ness,but maybe that only works if you're a hot shower person to begin with. Best of luck

  6. I make a gluten free Deep Dish Pizza for my husband using a gluten free sweet baking powder biscuit recipe for the crust. With the "Deep Dish" you can throw on just about anything and it will taste great. Lots of tomato sauce, though, 'cause the crust soaks it up. M-m-m-m-m, lots of cheese and peperoni, sausage, mushrooms and black olives. The rest of the family likes it, too (who are not Celiac). I get requests for the gluten free pizza.
